A Grizzly Bear among the wildflowers in the Many Glacier Valley area of Glacier National Park. There are approximately 300 grizzly bears in the park.
Grizzly bears are large, powerful omnivores with a distinctive shoulder hump, long claws, and excellent senses of smell and hearing. They are incredibly fast runners, reaching up to 35 miles per hour, and can live for about 30 years in the wild.
A couple of black bears stopped the traffic and kept us entertained on Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park. There are roughly 600 black bears in the park.
Five interesting facts about black bears are that they are not always black in color, they are surprisingly fast and excellent climbers, their sense of smell is far superior to a dog's, they are omnivores with a diet that is mostly vegetarian, and they give birth to their cubs in dens during hibernation.
