A Black-tailed Jackrabbit in Utah.
Black-tailed jackrabbits are super-fast, large hares with long, black-tipped ears and a black stripe on their tail. They are not true rabbits but are more like wild hares, living in deserts and grasslands across western North America. These animals are mostly active at night and can run up to 40 miles per hour to escape predators.
Armadillo. Texas.
Armadillos are mammals with a tough, bony shell made of hardened skin that protects them from predators. They are mostly active at night, digging burrows for sleeping, and using their excellent sense of smell to find food like insects and worms. While many species live in Central and South America, one kind, the nine-banded armadillo, is found in the southern United States and is the official mammal of Texas.
