Bison are North America's largest mammals, can run up to 35 mph, and have excellent hearing and smell, but poor eyesight. They are herbivores that eat grasses and other plants, are known for their large shoulder hump, and use their strong horns for defense and fighting other males for mating rights. Baby bison are often born with an orange-red coat that changes to brown within a few months.  ​​​​​​​
